Why Worry When You Can Choose to be HappyEvery thought we have is a choice. So why worry when you can choose to be happy?

One of my favorite quotations is:

“Worry is negative prayer.”

This quote reminds us that our worry is actually energizing that which we claim we do not want to happen, or that which we wish did not happen.

Family Movies on DVDMy cousin recently mailed me copies of some DVDs that contained footage from films that her father had taken over the years.

Almost everyone in the DVDs had passed on and a lot of the footage contained my uncle’s in-laws and friends – people that I no longer remembered or never knew.

So over the weekend I edited the films down to just one DVD to pass on to my own children and grandchildren. The edited DVD contains my grandparents, parents and family.

Within the edited footage,  I added freeze frames with text about the family tree connections and who the people in the scenes were so that my grandchildren would hopefully value the film.

As I looked at footage of my parents when they were newly married, of my grandparents still young, of weddings, picnics, vacations and holidays  – I thought of how the films always showed them all smiling, happy and celebrating life. But was that how it really was?

Ode to a Friend

What if I really let you be you,
What if you really let me be me,
What if we met without pretenses,
Who would we then see?

Why Did We Choose This?

My husband and I had taken a leisurely drive up the coast.  We parked along the side of a rustic patch of beach then walked up to the dune.

We sat on a weather-worn wooden bench and enjoyed the view for about an hour – silent in our thoughts.

It felt good to sit still and look out at the waves as in an open eyed meditation.

Earlier that day I had been writing in my journal and I was now pondering upon some of the ideas which came to me that morning.

Driving back towards home, my husband looked at me and said, “Why do you think we are here?”

Lately I’ve been reading about the town where I grew up.  There have been a lot of changes to the carefree mountain area which has turned into a suburbia of large homes, mini mansions and townhouses – where there used to be fields of amusement.

I think a lot about my memories from there. These memories are bittersweet.  I was blessed to have lived on such a beautiful lake, and enjoyed the great outdoor activities: boating, swimming, water skiing, ice skating, sledding and snowmobiling.

There were happy times, there were sad times… but it was all part of growing up. To me this had always been home. But we moved from there when I was a teenager, so this can’t be home.

Are you getting guidance?

We get so caught up in signs, omens, and guidance. We look for the really big answers like,

Should I buy this car? Should I move to another State? Should I quit my job? Should I marry this person?

And sometimes we are aware of the guidance and sometimes we totally ignore it, but it is always there.

Or we may think we don’t get the guidance.

The Spiritual Stream of All that is.

It has been said that in our not knowing we are in and part of the spiritual Stream, is like a fish looking for water, or a wave seeking the ocean.

We are in, of and from the Stream of energy that is in all, is expressed as all, and creates and becomes all.

Years ago, I was reminded by my young son that with focus, desire, determination, persistence and belief – we can create what we desire to be, do or have in life.

How badly to do you want what you say you want?

I had a friend tell me about something that she wanted that had still not come to fruition.

“Have you considered whether or not you really want it?” I asked her.

Often when we don’t get what we wish for, we find that deep inside we either don’t really want it, or aren’t willing to do what it takes to achieve it.
