Following Intuitive Guidance
Last week I was a guest at a beautiful beach wedding. The groom stood with his best man and the minister – their backs to the ocean. The guests, consisting of family and friends, stood in a half circle around the groom facing west to await his bride.
From the dunes and down the beach path, came the three adorable flower girls, followed by the lovely maid of honor.
As the bride approached the top of the hill, one of the guest’s shouted “Look at the turtles!”
We all turned in unison towards the north to see an amazing sight. A mound in the sand several yards away suddenly opened up as small sea turtles – seemingly all having hatched at once — spilled out of the mound and onto the beach.
With fixed determination, not distracted by us or anything else – they marched fully focused towards the ocean and into the water.
It was an awesome sight. It was magical. The turtles timing seemed so symbolic for the wedding – new beginnings for them and the bride and groom.
But what really struck me was watching the turtles intuitive urge. There was no hesitation on the part of the turtles. They did not wonder if they should turn north or south — they intuitively knew to march east and into the waves.
What was so strong in them - that they all felt the same pull, the same guidance, the same directive?
What – or who – was guiding them?
What propelled them to all burst out of the mound at the same time? What caused them to march straight towards the ocean?
There was no debating it … there was no committee… there was no doubt… and there appeared to be no fear.
The turtles were simply following their intuition — their intuitive urge.
And it’s a lesson to behold. To follow one’s intuitive directive – is natural.
Why is it then that we humans often negate the intuitive guidance? What has caused us to believe that we are on our own? How have we become limited to only perceive using our rational minds?
Why would the Source that brought forth the sea turtles and empowered them with this valuable intuitive guidance — not provide the same guidance for us?
Let us realize that a force is guiding us as well… and all we have to do is acknowledge it.
- Set your sites on a target (the sea)
- Walk forward when the urge hits (follow inner prompts of guidance)
- It may take you out of your comfort zone (leaving the comfort of the mound)
- But it is guiding you – giving you the next step. (walk to the water’s edge).
When we stop doubting that the guidance is there, when we stop analyzing and stop negating it — the cues and clues grow stronger within us.
God – our Source – the Force — is there for the turtles…. God is here for us too.
