Writing to Clear the Mind to get to the Heart

If I force my writing, it feels heavy, weighted and restrictive. That is when I know it is coming from the mind, which is like a task master standing ready to strike my fingers with its ruler.

The writing needs to come from my heart. It is then that the writing is light and easy. If, as I am writing I lose track of time and space, then I know that I am writing from within the slipstream.

How do we get from the head to the heart?

By committing to write more – one’s mind may slip off from creative into editor mode.

With renewed commitment to write– my mind fights to slip off from creative into editor mode. It would rather edit and flesh out what I have already written – like working a puzzle– than to let loose and allow new creative thought in.

I am startled that this is occurring.  I thought that once the commitment was made, the writing would flow easily.  But instead my mind has become used to having many balls in the air and does not want to quietly tap into creativity.

And so, like David and Goliath, I must persist and find a way to overcome the giant bully that does not want to behave. What should be fun can become toil if one’s mind rebels against doing it.

The critic can get very loud in one’s head. But, having dipped into the well of creative consciousness, I know what is possible. But for now, the dog is harnessed – perhaps a walk will release the flow!
